The ‘Manhattan Project’ Comes to Tennessee

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins construction on the town of Oak Ridge, Tennessee as part of the U.S. Army’s secret atomic bomb program, called the “Manhattan Project.” The site was chosen in part because of the ready power available from nearby Norris Dam.
